Sadie
Sadie brings the light into our existence by her unique personality and her almost human intelligence. She was bought by my Mom because she wanted an Australian Shepherd like I had. Sadie survived my moms house burning down last January and she went and laid down by my Mom when she was laying on the ground completely distraught from losing everything but her and her car. Mom then had a massive stroke the end of January when she was trying to dig through the rubble to see what she could salvage. Since then Sadie has been with me as I trained her and Mom would not let anyone else take care of her as she always said if something happened to her Sadie came to me.
Finding out Sadie had stage 3 cancer was just one more horrible thing that happened to my Mom in 2025. Sadie brings her so much joy and to see the light in her eyes and her saying "my baby" when she can't speak is everything. I did not want to go back and never be able to have Sadie with me when I bring her to see Mom. When you have someone that cant speak, can't walk and can't use her right hand when she was right handed any positive emotion is a major plus.
The cancer DR told us about your organization and we submitted the application.
The grant means more joy for my Mom and honestly for me as I get to see that joy. Because Sadie is with me now, its like having a piece of my Mom with me. My Mom and I kind of grew up together as she had me when she was 14. We have a very unique relationship as I have been taking care of her for a long time even though she lived on her own with my stepdad (who also had cancer and lost his nose) and hip replacement. Any joy that can be brought into her life means everything. It is truly the simple things like having someone you love show up is everything. Yes, I am her 60 year old baby. I have a younger sister and I had a younger brother but he died in 2008 when he was only 34.
I appreciate so much this chance of giving Mom that smile and happiness with Sadie.
Regards, Nelson Everette
